Homeschooling
We use an eclectic approach with carefully chosen curriculums and a unique writing approach.
I have both James (5th grad) & Lauren (2nd grade) working on the same material. James is doing more intense studies and writing assignments than Lauren but they are still learning the same information.
- Math: Math U See (Zeta for James) and (Gamma for Lauren)
- Reading: various books from the library (from animals and aircraft to biographies and Hank the Cow dog) – at least 30 minutes a day
- Latin: Memoria Press, Latina Christiana I
- Writing: Practice writing stories, book reports, poems, reports, etc. We work on various writing techniques, spelling, punctuation, etc.
- Bible: Studying character traits from within the Bible (i.e. humility, gratefulness, honesty, etc.). They then write every few weeks a report on what they’ve learned (either through poems, drawings or reports). These then go into their Character Journals.
- American Government: We’re using the elementary version from American Heritage (it’s free!)
- Apologia’s Exploring Creation: Flying Creatures of the 5th Day

oh thank you for the character traits! Everyone one wants so much money for these or they make it neutral! We started on alertness but kinda fell off… thanks!
